Description:
Traditional Cochin lemongrass oil is widely used as a fragrance ingredient in a wide range of personal care products and extensively in aromatherapy. Certain types of lemongrass are also used as a flavouring ingredient.
Khush Ingredients offers three types of lemongrass oil at present, conventional, organic and a botanical variation known as Lemongrass citratus (Cymbopogon citratus), which is more widely used as a flavouring ingredient. This information relates to conventional Cymbopogon flexuosus, which we import from Cochin region of India. The oil is produced from the steam distillation of the dried grass of cymbopogon flexuosus, grown principally in fields in southern parts of India.
There is also extensive lemongrass grown in other parts of the world including Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. Our current supply from India reflects the high volume produced, with good understanding of the material and a beneficial cost base ensuring we can deliver cost effective, consistent material to our customers at a fair price.
Our sources of lemongrass oil are ethical producers who annually declare that they are against animal testing and against other exploitative practices.
As a grass, lemongrass flourishes in hot and wet conditions. In Southern India, there is growth all year round, but the main crop is harvested in April/May and a second harvest in September is usually possible. The best quality and best prices for lemongrass oil are normally available from June each year.
