SAMPLES
We keep current samples of most of these oils so why not see the quality on offer by requesting a sample by clicking samplerequest@khushing.com. We regret that we can only sample bona-fida companies, if you are a smaller entity then you are welcome to visit our Oxfordshire laboratory to see the oils first hand.
OUR ORGANIC CERTIFIED RANGE
Since the beginning of 2016, Khush Ingredients have achieved and maintained organic registration for our UK operations. We learnt quickly that there was a lot of poor quality (probably not genuine) organic oils being offered in the market place. We believe that organic oils should have odours and profiles at least as good as our conventional oils and we began looking for sources that we could trust in delivering oils and floral waters for our organic range. Our process for securing and importing organic oils is a little different from our conventional oils as genuine organic oils tend to only be available for a short period after harvest. As such we rush to get new season samples, ensuring they meet our characteristics on odour, physical and GC profile before securing our estimate of sales for the following year.
CERTIFICATION
Khush Ingredients is certified by the Soil Association. Organic materials are imported with full certificate of inspection, producer certification dates checked and authorised by certification bodies before import. Whilst we do send out our latest Organic Registration Certificates and Trading Schedules, please note that you can always find the latest copy here on our website (in case you have a last minute inspection to prepare for).
SOURCE
Our range of Organic essential oils are grown and distilled in dedicated organic facilities around the world. The plantations are near the processing unit and care is taken to ensure that traditional methods are used for production of high quality genuine organic oils. Plantations are sustainable, self-contained facilities. Multi-crop policy means that the soil isn’t over stripped of nutrients from mono-culture.
PACKAGING
Goods are normally supplied in 1 or 5 litre new Aluminium containers or 25kg HDPE containers. We would recommend our customers to recycle the containers where possible.
WHY IS ORGANIC MORE EXPENSIVE?
To avoid use of all chemical pesticides and herbicides, much work has to be manually carried out, such as weeding.
The yield of the plants is also lower as the plant leaves contain more natural defects and grow at a more natural rate, rather than with application of excessive fertilisers. This also can affect the actual composition of the oil compared with non-organic sources. Users can enjoy organic oils are pesticide free and produced from plants grown in areas more in harmony with the local eco-system. Organic oils of plants with larger leaves (mints, cinnamon leaf) tend to be higher price differential vis a vis conventional oils, compared to smaller leaves (lavender, rosemary) due to the higher insect damage to the leaves.
The batch sizes of the oils produced and the annual production quantity are much lower than non-organic essential oils, so analysis costs packaging costs, transport costs, organic inspection costs all are higher.
Normally this means that the cost per kg is between 20% and 250% more of the cost of the conventional oil.
The differential becomes lowest when we compare 180kg drums of organic oils with drums of conventional. Khush Ingredients are one of the few UK companies who have REACH registration for many of our main organic oils, so whether you need a kilo or a tonne, we can import and deliver.
CONVERSION PROCESS: HARVESTED PLANTS TO ESSENTIAL OILS
The processing of the plant biomass to the essential oils is also done on a dedicated organic distillery. This avoids any cross-contamination between non-organic and organic oils. A full GC breakdown of all our organic essential oils is available on request.
