Product of the Month: Turmeric Root Oil

Conventional & Organic

What is Turmeric?

Turmeric (or Haldi) is a part of the ginger (Zingiberaceae) plant family. The rhizome, which is the thick root or stem that grows underground, has been used in the Indian subcontinent for thousand of years as a food flavouring and as a traditional form of medicine. Turmeric has a long list of medicinal properties and just as many claims of health benefits. Historically, it is alleged to have been used for skin disorders, joint issues and problems with the digestive system.

Turmeric or Turmeric Root?

Turmeric Root Oil is collected via a process of steam distillation of the roots (rhizomes) of the botanical plant Curcuma longa. The signature component of Turmeric Root Oil obtained from the steam distillation process is known as tumerone (not curcumin which comes from the CO2 extracted Turmeric).

Where does our Turmeric Root Oil come from?

Naturally, as Turmeric is native to the Indian subcontinent, we source our Turmeric from India. The issue with sourcing root oils from India is that the pesticide levels are generally quite high, so for customers seeking lower pesticide levels we also stock Organic Turmeric Root Oil.
